A Halifax County woman was charged Thursday with abusing a 4-year-old child, authorities said. 

<b>HOLLISTER, N.C.</b> — A Halifax County woman was charged Thursday with abusing a 4-year-old child, authorities said.

Gloria Coley Silver, 66, of Hollister, is charged with felony child abuse. According to authorities, Silver was babysitting the child at the time of the incident.

According to a statement, The child would stay with Silver at her residence while the child's mother was at work. The child would also occasionally stay into the night depending on when the mother would get off of work.

Silver is in jail under a $5,000 secured bond. She is due in court on Mar. 25.
