Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — An arrest has been made after a man barricaded himself and his mother inside a Halifax County home Tuesday evening.
Roanoke Rapids Police Capt. Bobby Martin said officers received a call for a welfare check on an 80-year-old woman in the 200 block of Old Farm Road at about 5:30 p.m. When they arrived at the home, they found the woman's son, Marc Reber, with a gun, Martin said.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said that the Reber, 54, had barricaded himself inside the home and a stand-off lasting nearly three hours ensued.
Reber was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Tripp said the standoff began when deputies attempted to serve court papers at the home.
Authorities had an inside view of the home for the majority of the incident as Reber streamed the unfolding situation on Facebook Live.
Martin said the Facebook Live helped authorities stay aware of what was happening inside the home and get Reber's mother out of the home safely.
Charges were pending against Reber on Tuesday night.
