HENDERSON, N.C. — Police on Tuesday arrested a man who has been convicted 43 times for shoplifting or misdemeanor larceny after he allegedly stole from a Food Lion supermarket in Henderson.

Calvin Wilson, 51, of 835 Water St. in Henderson, was charged with misdemeanor larceny, second-degree trespassing and resisting a public officer.

Officers said he tried to take $57 in country ham, ham biscuits and steaks from the Food Lion, at 1419 E. Andrews Ave.

The Henderson Police Department is working with local retailers to crack down on habitual shoplifters like Wilson by enforcing a state law that makes it illegal to remain in an establishment without consent when there is an intent to commit a crime. The department also is lobbying state lawmakers to enact a habitual misdemeanor larceny law.
