— Gwinnett County police are investigating a death that they think may be a homicide which occurred early Tuesday morning in unincorporated Buford.

According to police, the incident took place near Friendship Road and Duncan Ives Drive. Police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said a resident in the Duncan Park neighborhood called the 911 at about 3 a.m. reporting that they heard gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found a man, believed to be in his early 20s, suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was found in front of the neighborhood clubhouse at the end of Express Lane in the cul-de-sac. The victim was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville and eventually underwent surgery. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, Pihera said.

Pihera said officers later found a deceased victim inside of a vehicle parked near Friendship Road and Duncan Ives Drive. The victim was found shortly before 7 a.m. about 300 yards from the original crime scene, police said. The vehicle and body were found along a dirt path that travels under the power lines that skirt the back of the neighborhood, which is located was just inside Hall County, Pihera said.

A police helicopter is currently searching by air for any additional victims and evidence. Lilburn Police K9 also responded to assist the Gwinnett K9 squad in a ground search, Pihera said.

Pihera said the lead detective is looking into the possibility that additional people may be involved. The identities of the shooting victim and the homicide victim will be withheld until their next-of-kin can be notified, she said

The motivation for the crime is still being investigated.
