Gunfire reported near Fayetteville State University campus

Shots were fired early Tuesday near Fayetteville State University, school officials said, leading to the university to warn students to stay inside.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Shots were fired early Tuesday near the campus of Fayetteville State University, prompting the university to warn students to seek shelter.

Campus police responded to reports of a shooting at Langdon Street, near McLeod Hall, at 12:43 a.m., school officials said. Officers found two 9 mm shell casings near the corner of Seabrook Road and Langdon Street.

An email alert sent to students warned them to seek shelter and stay indoors.

An all-clear message was sent just before 2 a.m.

Fayetteville police were investigating the incident.

No suspects have been arrested.
