Guardsmen rescue mom, daughter trapped in flood waters

Hattiesburg, Miss. — Eight Army National Guard soldiers on a recreational run stopped to help a mother and daughter trapped in a flooding parking lot last Saturday.
The soldiers from North Carolina, Georgia and Mississippi were taking a break from training at Camp Shelby, Miss., for deployment to Afghanistan and Iraq.
They helped the women get to safety and then pushed the stranded car out of the flooded parking lot.
The North Carolina soldiers who helped were FC Mark F. Wetz, A Co., 1-113 Field Artillery; SFC David Abernathy, Headquarters 30th HBCT; MSgt., David Lail G Co. 230th Brigade Support Battalion; and 2nd Lt. Janderson L. Cibils, HHC 1-120 CAB.
