A Greenville police sergeant is presumed dead after a house fire early Saturday morning.

GREENVILLE, N.C. — A Greenville police sergeant is presumed dead after a house fire early Saturday morning.
WITN reports that firefighters responded to Sergeant Tim "Mac" McInerney's home at 4 a.m.

Police said a body recovered inside the home is presumed to be McInerney, but has not been confirmed by the state medical examiner.

The cause of death and fire is till under investigation, according to WITN.

The State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
