Greenville man charged with trying to kill mother
A Greenville man faces charges that he tried to kill his mother Tuesday evening, a little more than a year after he finished a prison sentence on similar charges.
Posted — UpdatedPolice said that Eltwoyne Terrell Carter, 27, stabbed his mother near 458 Burrington Road around 7:20 p.m. His mother's injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, and she was taken to a local hospital.
Investigators didn't comment on a motive in the stabbing.
Carter was arrested early Wednesday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Pitt County Detention Center.
Carter finished a 4½-year prison sentence in April 2010 for convictions for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, communicating threats and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to state Department of Correction records.
He also served a total of 2½ years for a conviction for assault inflicting serious injury in 1999 and common-law robbery in 2002.
