The new space is three times the size of the old spot in Apex and allows for store owner Krista Cathey to expand to include youth furniture, more children's clothing and a much bigger design center.

GreenPea Baby & Child Boutique is moving from downtown Apex to Cary's Waverly Place this week.

The store opens in its new location, on the lower level of Waverly Place near the Chick-fil-A and playground, on Wednesday.

Owner Krista Cathey, a local mom, tells me that Waverly Place came to her in August to find out if she was interested in moving. The store, which opened in 2008, has focused on nursery furniture and decor; clothing for infants to toddlers; breastfeeding accessories; cloth diapers; and other items for the young children.

The new space is three times the size of the old spot in Apex. Cathey tells me she's expanding her merchandise to include a line of youth furniture called Smart Stuff, which is designed for kids of all ages including teens. She also will now offer clothing up to six 6. And the shop now will have a much bigger design center where shoppers can find fabric, window treatments and other items needed to decorate a child's room or nursery.

"That's been a big part of our business," she tells me.

When contemplating the move, Cathey said she didn't want to leave southwest Wake County, but did want to be a bit closer for shoppers coming from Raleigh. The loss of SmartMomma in north Raleigh will likely mean more shoppers coming from Raleigh. (At last check, SmartMomma continues its closing sale with items up to 75 percent off).

The new location across from WakeMed's Cary campus also was ideal as the store serves plenty of new and expecting parents.

"Everybody's doctor is over here," Cathey said. "It's just a good spot."

GreenPea will continue its regular classes, including a CPR class, cloth diaper class and clean eating class where parents learn how to make baby food. Cathey also is talking to lactation consultants to offer a program at the store too.

The shop opens on Wednesday and will have a bunch of special events and deals during the next couple of weeks. They include a registry soiree, Vera Bradley trunk show, a nursery design event with Edward Walker and a grand opening. Check GreenPea's website for all the details.

The new location, with restaurants and popular evening events, also means expanded hours for the shop. They will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday.

"It's very exciting," said Cathey, a mom of three. "It's been fun to see it grow and we've got an excellent staff."

GreenPea's new address is 316 Colonades Way, Cary.

Can't wait to check the new store out!
