CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue plans to visit Camp Lejeune Thursday for a tour of new solar, thermal, hot-water systems being installed on the rooftops of 900 on-base homes.

The project, when complete, will be the largest residential solar thermal energy project in the continental U.S.

Solar panels are expected to provide nearly 75 percent of the energy needed to supply hot water for the homes.
