Mhm. Okay. Uh huh. Yeah. Hey everyone, thank you so much for joining the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils 2021 virtual ribbon cutting tour. We're so excited to be here. But before we get started, let's take a look at the Foundation's work, childhood obesity affects everyone. Nearly a third of american Children are overweight or obese. That's more than 23 million kids and teenagers. That's why I've declared war on childhood obesity. In 2006, I partnered with my good friend, former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger to create the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. I once had Jake's job. Next as you do a terminator movie and then it become governor of the great state of California. I knew we were onto something amazing. We have a very simple mission. We want to put fitness centers in every elementary and middle school in this great country of ours. So when I became chairman of the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils, we created public and private partnerships with companies like coca cola, Nike wheels up and the anthem Foundation at the coca cola company. We strive to refresh the world and make a difference. That's why we're proud to partner with jake together. We're creating a better, shared future for the communities we serve. If you give the schools the tools, it's amazing to see what happens. Our program awards brand new fitness centers to schools which demonstrate innovative ways in promoting physical activity and wellness to their students when you're healthy and when you're strong you can achieve anything you want in your life. They said, his body by jake, I think it's mind by J. J. Called you pick up the ball. This is a hip. This is first class all the way. I'm proud to say that governors across this great country of ours have stepped up to the challenge and join the fight and they understand that academics and fitness go hand in hand. This is what it's all about right here. See the kids on this equipment. This isn't a partisan idea. This isn't even a bipartisan idea. This is a non partisan idea. I'm excited. In fact, I'm ready to come back here and exercise. So let's not sit around anymore. Let's get out there and see the new 50th center. There were a lot of challenges our country faced in 2020 so we decided to do a virtual ribbon cutting tour. I love the enthusiasm of the students and faculty was overwhelming. And although these governors couldn't be with us in person, they still wanted to express their appreciation to everyone that made it happen. Don't quit. Yes. These great governors aren't going to quit and neither are we remember those two words don't quit and here's the best part. We've only just begun. We've already been to 36 states and we're not stopping there this year will be visiting Mississippi maine north Carolina and the great state of new Hampshire, my goal is to put a state of the art. Don't quit Fitness Center in every single state in the USA do you love it. I love it. Who has been so good. It's so great by helping our kids battle obesity. We're giving them the building blocks to overcome challenges and excel beyond their wildest dreams. When your body is healthier, you can do anything in the world that you be what you make them believe you are. We're making great strides, but we can't stop now. America is the greatest nation on earth and I wanted to be the fittest nation to can you do it? Our most precious resource when you are strong, This nation will be strong. It's going to take a country of heroes, heroes like you together. We can keep our kids healthy and strong so they can lead this great nation into a bright and prosperous future. Yeah, don't quit. He's a new york times and Wall Street Journal best selling author, the Chairman of the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils. Please welcome Jake Steinfeld. Hey, I'm Jake Steinfeld share the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils and I am so excited to be here today. Yes, virtually. It is 2021 but we are all together and we are celebrating now. You know when I look out across over all the schools, it kind of reminds me of being back in elementary and middle school myself and well I was an overweight kid and I had a really bad started growing up. And uh, my dad, he bought me a set of weights when I was 13 years old. And not only did the weights build my body, but I built my confidence and self esteem and you know when you have confidence and you have self esteem, you can achieve anything you want in your life and it's amazing to see what happens. Especially when you start exercising, think about this for a second. Look, I'm a big believer in life is about moments and this is one of those great moments because when you exercise your healthier, if you're healthy, you're not home sick from school. And when you're exercising your less fidgety. So if you're less fidgeting, you're more focused. If you're more focused, you do better on your tests, you do better on your tests, it teaches are proud of you, your parents are proud of you and you can look in the mirror and be proud of who you are. That's what don't quit is all about. That's what we talk about this upward spiral of success and I'm so excited for everyone To enjoy these brand new $100,000, don't quit fitness centers. But I will have to say this, we couldn't have done it without the support of this next guest of ours. He's an awesome dad and happens to be the governor of the Great State of North Carolina. So grateful for all of the things that you're doing to get kids healthy across the country and for all the good work that you've been doing right here in north Carolina. It is really exciting. I want to thank the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Council who helped to make this possible today. And of course jake being the driving force behind that. This don't quit youth fitness program is the kind of effort that we need, not only in north Carolina but across the country. And particularly as we emerge from this pandemic, I know everybody did some sitting around and a little discouraged during the pandemic. Now, more than ever, we need to concentrate on being physically fit and what a great place to do it in your school with these fitness centers. So what a great idea and what a great thing to happen uh, here in north Carolina. I know that I've been getting my steps every day and everybody else needs to make sure you're in shape too. These three fitness centers are linked, uh, to our schools and they will make a difference. It also aligns with the executive order 49 that I issued in north Carolina. That will improve Children's health outcomes. So I am proud today to announce the three north Carolina schools that have gotten this $100,000 gift for fitness centers in their schools. That is so excited. Each one of these schools has demonstrated the ability and the willingness to promote health and wellness of the students and their families. And we want to make sure that they don't quit. So it's exciting to announce jake. I don't know if you've got a drum roll, but if you do the winners are first, see em eps middle school in Greenville. North Carolina go bulldogs. The second winner is Northridge Middle School in charlotte north Carolina. Go hawks and last but not least. And I think jake you even spent some time with these young people today. Prick, Women's County middle school in windfall. North Carolina go tigers. Congratulations to everybody for this big win. Okay now for the company that puts all of our fitness equipment in these dynamite schools, let's hear it forlornly accord from fitness in motion more. Let's go. Hi jake. I'm so glad to partner up with N. F. G. F. C. And be able to do all the elementary and middle schools that you've provided fitness equipment for. Uh, we just really feel like it's a special, unique wait, we've given it back to the community for our team and fitness emotion. I have a son who is in middle school and a daughter and sister who teach middle school and it's so great to give back to that level of the community and we just really hope you enjoy all your fitness centers. Alright now it's time for the stars of the show. The school's first up cmfs middle school. How you guys doing. Oh, I'm doing great. What do you think of your brand new? Don't quit fender center. I love all those answers. Okay. Really important because you guys have gone through a lot with hurricanes and Covid and all these big, big challenges. What's the lesson you learned here about taking the shot about believing in yourself and believing in your school and your community? I think where we were last year and one of the reasons that I wanted to apply for this is we as a school just kind of felt like what more could happen. You know, we lost a roof, We had Covid, we had all of the things. Um and so I think just showing them that this was an email I got from association I'm a part of and it sounded like one of those emails that is this even true. And I just kind of thought to myself, well, you know what, what's the harm and just applying to see what happened and how awesome it would be. Um, so I think for the kids, I hope they understand that. Don't be afraid to take chances even though it seems impossible and it seems like who would ever do this for us. Um, and I hope they understand that this is ours now and it's something that was given to us to help us rebuild our school in our community and um so I'm just hoping from my point of view, I hope that's what they take. Just take chances and you never know, don't quit. You never give up and you don't know what can happen when you just take a chance. Now. That is a great example of perseverance, a real good attitude. I'm really proud of you guys, awesome. This is so much fun. Ok. Next up the equipment's county middle school tigers. Well, what was that feeling like when you found out you want guys? I think it was overwhelming when you're in a small rural community. You know, we've done that. We stick together. You know, that's what makes sports, that's what makes camaraderie all of that. So great. So to get such a big grant in a small area, it was for us, it was like national news. You know, it was bigger than Covid, it was bigger than our football championship on many levels. And maybe For us, it meant so much more for the future. I think the slogan don't quit, it means so much in the classroom, whether it's the fitness center, whether it's, you know, we're playing sports, it combines all the things from 2020 and 2019 that we've endured with COVID and it was just like the icing on the cake. So it was a big deal for us. Really big. This is just outstanding. Let's keep it rolling. Our final school in the great state of north Carolina. North Ridge Middle school. The Hawks. Oh, you guys are looking great. Hey, so listen, tell me what impact this is going to have on your community, for our community, for our school for students. It means so much because we're able to link community school. Um, and uh, families together through this fitness center. What our students learn here, They take home, they pass on to their family. Uh, boy, I love that. You know, family. That's what we're all about. We're all family. So what are the plans? You have some big plans for that? Don't quit fitness center to start off with. We plan on getting every student in our school, train on these machines to our physical education and health programs. Our staff are super excited and we have found a way to get them involved in a way to sustain um, upkeep of our, our center as well. So we've got a lot of plans. Um, just kind of slow walking him. But we're gonna get started here soon. That's great. Thank you so much And thank you for all that great energy. Okay, now it's time now it's time to cut the ribbon. I just want to say before. We do it. Thanks to all the support from the moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles and teachers, administrators, our sponsors and our governors. Are we ready? Has meant so much to me, those two words throughout my entire life. When I was in eighth grade, I was cut from my 8th grade basketball team and I was pretty devastated and a friend gave me a poem truly cold. Don't quit. The last two lines of that poem are simply stated. Stick to the fight when you're hardest hit. It's when things seem worst, that you must not quit. Don't quit on. You don't quit on your families. Hi, everyone. Meteorologist Anthony Baglione here on this Thursday where of course, we're tracking a whole lot of sunshine here across the state. We take a look outside. It is beautiful out there. Sunshine. We have warm temperatures on the way for us today. Let's talk about the kind of what we have headed this way over the next couple of days. Besides the sunshine. Today, we have a warm Thursday ahead. It's gonna be hot today near 90 this afternoon. Spotty storms though into tomorrow looks like mainly after about two o'clock into tomorrow evening. Spotty is gonna be a good word for it and I'll show you future cast here in just a second. Better rain chances though by the time we get into our Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening, that will be a time period to plan on some rainfall coming through. Otherwise we go today to 87 this afternoon. Some spots Fayetteville, for instance, could hit 90. Certainly. I think it's a good bet for us. 40% chance of some showers and storms though. Tomorrow afternoon does jump up though into Sunday mainly during the evening and then Sunday night, talking about tomorrow though. We do from the storm prediction center have out a risk of some strong to severe storms. The overall threat as it stands right now looks very low. This does not look like a huge severe weather event, but they have us outline in that potential. Nonetheless, we go through futurecast. Here's lunchtime on our Friday. We may have a couple light areas of rainfall. By that point. I think the better chances that would be again after two o'clock or so, mainly from the triangle to the south could see a few pop up storms. This is not a widespread tons of rainfall kind of event for us. And then this gets out of here, maybe just a few lingering spotty showers into tomorrow night for the most part though. If you're headed out into the next couple of days, no big problems until we get into our Sunday with more rain. We go to 87 today, 83 tomorrow, really cooling off there with the rainfall into Sunday at 6365 on Monday. Like I said, best chances of rain come in for us into Sunday afternoon, Sunday night and then should be tapering off by the time we get into early Monday morning of next week.
