DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper made a special visit to an early childhood education program in Durham on Wednesday.

Wildflower Cottage provides child care to almost 50 students each day. The center was one of the recipients of the Child Care Stabilization grants, getting federal funding.

The Governor says the grants have impacts on all sectors of the community. The fixed cost grants can cover repairs and improvements, and the compensation grants can fund bonuses, raises, and health insurance. Wildflower got both.

"We know that quality early childhood education makes a significant difference in how successful children are going to be once they get into kindergarten and school," Cooper said.

Cooper also highlighted the importance of childcare in getting parents back into the workforce who left during the pandemic.
