RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — For Jackie Morin, sugar is a way of life.
Morin and her husband, Rem, started gourmet cotton candy company, Wonderpuff, several years ago. The business will open its first permanent location this fall at Boxyard RTP, a concept that will repurpose shipping containers into business spaces.
Wonderpuff started out by doing free pop up events across the Triangle, just trying to get the word out. Last year, it was part one of the businesses to hold a pop-up at American Tobacco Campus.

"It was brilliant. It was the most exhausting experience me and my husband have ever experience as a small business because we went from catering once a week at outdoor markets and private events to, 'we're going to be open seven days a week for a whole month,'" Morin said.

Wonderpuff isn't your typical pink and blue cotton candy. It's organic and vegan, which not all cotton candy is.

"We're almost like offended by the pink and blue cotton candy world because ours is very much different," Morin said, saying her husband has worked hard to come up with flavors.

Wonderpuff cotton candy is colorless, but the flavors are bold like lavender, orange, cardamom, salted caramel and mango.

"When you see Wonderpuff cotton candy, it's white. It's very basic and plain, but when you taste it and when you eat it, it's very, very potent. There are powerful, strong flavors that can almost overwhelm you at first," Morin said.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Wondepuff launched a new flavor - campfire s'more.

"When you taste the campfire s'more, you're tasting the sweetness of the marshmallow, but the smokiness of actual smoke. It's pretty cool," Morin said.

"when you, when you taste the campfire, some more you're tasting the sweetness of the marshmallow, but the smokiness of the actual smoke. It's pretty cool. That's amazing. You were able to get those flavors into something it's so light and airy and you don't think about having those complex kind of flavors going on together.

Boxyard is holding a "Cruise Thru" event on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. so people can check out some of the upcoming vendors. Wonderpuff will be there, but have already sold out of pre-orders for the day.
