Good Samaritans pull driver from car after fiery Knightdale crash

A driver is seriously injured after a dramatic crash Sunday night in Knightdale.

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A driver is seriously injured after a dramatic crash Sunday night in Knightdale.

According to troopers, a car was traveling around 80 or 90 mph on the 1200 block of Old Knight Road when it departed the road on the left side, struck a driveway and was launched airborne into a power pole and pine tree.

The car crashed to the ground and caught fire.

Officials say the driver was partially ejected through the front windshield.

According to officials, neighbors heard the crash and ran to the scene of the burning car. After several attempts, they were able to break into the rear window and get the driver's door open, pulling the man from his burning car just as flames engulfed it.

The driver was transported to WakeMed with serious injuries. Neighbors told WRAL at the scene that serious accidents are not uncommon in that location.
