Good news: Kittens found in bag along roadside have new homes
A Wake Forest man was surprised to find a sealed bag along the roadside was full of four newborn kittens.
Posted — UpdatedChuck Campbell, an 85-year-old retiree from Wake Forest, spotted the bag as he was driving and rescued the newborn kittens. He will be invited to the SPCA this weekend to watch the kittens meet their new owners.
When Campbell first found the kittens, they were in bad shape.
“I opened the bag and there were [these] beautiful tiny baby kittens, all nestled together,” said Campbell, “and I just could not keep from crying.”
In the past weeks, the kittens have received veterinary attention and round-the-clock neonatal care at the SPCA of Wake County. Now the kittens are healthy, thriving and ready for adoption.
“These kittens are safe not only because of the lifesaving work happening at the SPCA, but because of the kind actions and support of people in the community just like Chuck,” says Kim Flowers, SPCA Adoption Center Director.
“We see a huge increase in the number of kittens that need help during the summer,” says Flowers. Last year, the SPCA took in over a thousand homeless kittens from across North Carolina, and they anticipate this year’s need will be even greater. “Our ability to help as many kittens as possible is dependent upon different factors, and financial support is at the top of that list,” says Flowers.
