Goldsboro man killed in shooting, suspect charged with murder

Goldsboro police are investigating a shooting that led to a man's death on Sunday.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro police are investigating a shooting that led to a man's death on Sunday.

Officers found James Michael Smoot with several gunshot wounds around 5 p.m. on Bizzell Court. Smoot, 33, was pronounced dead by Wayne County paramedics shortly after they arrived.

Hours later, David Sykell Green was taken into custody on Orchard Street in connection with the shooting. Green, 18, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and has a scheduled court appearance for Monday afternoon.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. Police did not reveal details about what led to the shooting.
