Goldsboro couple nearly hit by gunfire Sunday night
A woman and her husband were dropping off food at a family member's home when gun fire hit their car. The woman said she would've been hit if she didn't get out for a smoke.
Posted — UpdatedThe driver, who wished to not be identified, said she and her husband delivered food to a family member who lives in the Lincoln Homes community Sunday night. She then got out of the car to smoke a cigarette.
The driver said she was shaken, adding she would’ve been hit if she didn’t take a smoke break.
“I’ve never been in a crossfire like that,” the driver said. “If I had been in that seat, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Just three minutes later, a bullet went through their back windows, grazing the driver-side seatbelt and hitting the rearview mirror.
The driver said her husband was in the car at the time of the shooting.
“The only thing I could think about was ‘My spouse is in that car!’” the driver said.
Neither the driver nor her husband were injured in the shooting.
Community activist Mark Colebrook with Safe Space for Youth said residents in Goldsboro have had enough of gun violence, and the effect it leaves on families.
“We, as a community, are being held hostage by those individuals who want to do the wrong thing,” Colebrook said. “We need to go to the city council, we need to go and find out and make sure. The only way we’re going to continue to be safe is if we have enough police out there.”
WRAL News has reached out to police on the status of the investigation or if anyone is in custody.
Residents told WRAL News organizers plan to share their concerns about gun violence in the city at tomorrow’s National Night Out Event at Herman Park.
“These people that have guns now, I don’t know what's on their mind, but it’s clearly not other people’s safety,” the driver said.
