Going Local: A&G Headlight Restoration Mobile Services

In an effort to support small businesses during the pandemic, I've been buying from or using at least one local business every week for months.

I've discovered some wonderful restaurants, service providers and more. In this regular Going Local series, I'll be profiling the Triangle area small businesses I have tried and loved and highly recommend.

Full disclosure: I have not been paid or given any free products of any kind to write these posts. The businesses did not even know I was considering writing about them until after I received the services.

Do you have cloudy headlights making it difficult to see the road after dark?

I have a Toyota Avalon that is over 10 years old and the headlights were REALLY cloudy. I noticed it was getting harder to see at night without my brights on so I looked in to replacing them completely. The cost would be over $150 not including labor.

A couple weeks ago, I read on the NextDoor page for my neighborhood about a local business, A&G Headlight Restoration Mobile Services, that will come to your house or place of work and clean car headlights so well that they look almost new. The person recommending the company raved about how clear his headlights were after this service.

So I called A&G on a Friday and spoke with Alex, the owner. He scheduled an appointment for the next Sunday afternoon at my home. He does all the work himself, works 7 days a week and is super friendly.

He texted me when he arrived, which was right on time. I came out to my car and chatted with him from a safe distance. He did not need to get in to my car for anything and we were able to easily social distance outside for a few minutes while he explained what he was going to do. Then I went back inside while he did his thing.

About 30 minutes later, he texted me again and asked me to come out and take a look at the passenger side headlight that he had just finished cleaning.

WOW! It truly looked new! I was amazed and thoroughly impressed.

I took this photo of the completed left side and the still-cloudy right side, which had yet to be cleaned. You can certainly see the difference.

It took him about 30 more minutes to clean the other headlight and it looks fantastic as well.

The total cost was $100 to clean both lights (not including the tip). Considering he came to my house and had the job done in about an hour, I thought that was a very fair price and I am totally pleased with the work he did.

He also gave me a little bottle of the cleaning solution and said to use it on the headlight cover when it starts to get a little dirty again, which I thought was nice.

The first time I drove at night after having them cleaned I was amazed at how much better I could see. I just wish I had done this sooner!

He is willing to drive to Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, South Durham and surrounding areas. If you live outside that area, he said he will meet you at a local mall or restaurant in his service area to do the work. You can get your headlights cleaned while you shop or enjoy your meal. A&G accepts credit and debit cards, CashApp and Venmo.

Before the pandemic, Alex was booked at least a week ahead. He indicated that since the pandemic started, he is usually 2/3 booked for the week because people are driving so much less right now. So, if your car is in need of some serious headlight cleaning, this is a great way to support a local business and get a great deal on a much-needed service.
