While the North Carolina mountains have had some snow this year, the Triangle area and Piedmont have not seen much in the way of winter weather.

Fayetteville is about to experience large amounts of snow - at Segra Stadium, where four sledding hills will be covered with snow made by Snow My Yard. Kids are invited to bundle up and experience winter fun, with snow-slides, virtual reality games and even a visit from Shrek.

The event, called SLED-GRA, is part of the 4th Friday event put on by The Woodpeckers, the City of Fayetteville and The Cool Spring Downtown District.

Aside from mounds of snow created by Snow My Yard, the event offers a Kid Zone Playground, foosball, yard games, face painting, hot and cold concessions and adult beverages.

According to the Facebook event, they recently added Virtual Reality Stations to SLED-GRA as part of a partnership with Tokyo Retro Gaming of Fayetteville.

They also announced that Shrek will also be attending the event prior to his appearance at Shrek: The Musical Opening Night Celebration.

SLED-GRA will take place Saturday, Jan. 25 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Officials said attendees should purchase tickets in advance. SLED-GRA tickets are $5 per person with children two (2) and under FREE as well as those who are 65 and older. Tickets include the use of a special sled provided by Snow My Yard.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased online. Ticket sales close at noon Friday, Jan. 24.
