Apex girls soccer, the No. 23 ranked team in HighSchoolOT's latest statewide Top 25 rankings, is starting to trend upward at the right time.

The Cougars won their fifth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Green Level on Monday night. The clean sheet posted by keeper Mindy McLaughlin was Apex's seventh shutout in its last eight matches.

Possession and pace was dominated by the Cougars from the outset of the match. Braedyn Dohse gave Apex all of the offense that it would end up needing in the first ten minutes.

The junior netted her first tally of the year on a free kick that snuck off the mitts of the keeper and into the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead that would hold through the half.

In the 51st minute, Apex got insurance from its star forward Emily Degnan. With room to operate in free space, Degnan sent a shot on frame that was stopped but the rebound ricocheted back to the right foot of the sophomore who scored for a tenth consecutive match.

With just over three minutes left to play, Lindsey McKinney put the match on ice by increasing the lead to 3-0.

Apex is now outscoring its opponents 45-10 this season. A season-opening draw to Broughton and a 3-1 loss to Chapel Hill are the only two blemishes on the Cougars' 9-1-1 overall record.

Despite being 4-0 in league play, Apex has its biggest tests in front of it with two of its next three matches against 6-0-2 Holly Springs and 6-3 Apex Friendship which sports a 3-1 record in the SWAC.
