Girl dies from hit-and-run crash in Raleigh; police looking for suspect vehicle

The crash happened near the intersection of Hillsborough Street and Bashford Road.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 12-year-old girl hit by a vehicle in a Raleigh hit-and-run has died.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Hillsborough Street and Bashford Road.

Raleigh police said the girl was trying to cross the road near the 6500 block of Hillsborough Street and was not in a crosswalk. Investigators confirmed the crash was part of a hit-and-run.

The girl was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her name has not been released.

Hillsborough Street was shut down between Ole Time BBQ and Bashford Road. The scene was still active as of 10 p.m., as a pink shoe could be seen in the middle of the road.

As of Saturday morning, Raleigh police do not have any suspects in custody.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a white 2006-2008 Hyundai hybrid passenger car.

The investigation is ongoing.
