A Wake Forest girl was attacked by an animal in the water off of Myrtle Beach on Monday.

“All of a sudden, we hear ‘Help, help,’” Torres told NBC affiliate WECT via Facebook Messenger. “Everyone was looking at the family but no one was really doing anything. I told my husband, ‘OMG, I see the shark’s fin,’ when they were running back to shore. Then I ran to see if she was okay.”

Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue Lt. Jonathan Evans confirmed beach crews were called to 1306 N. Ocean Blvd. at 2:55 p.m. Monday for an “aquatic animal incident,” but didn't reference a shark.

The mother of 11-year-old Peyton Force believes it was a shark as well.

She said Peyton is doing well.
