The accident happened outside a house at 4721 Mebane Oaks Drive, on the Orange-Alamance county line, around 7 p.m.
The girl ran down her driveway at full speed toward the road, troopers said. The driver of a Ford Ranger slammed on his brakes but could not avoid hitting her.
The girl remained conscious and kept crying while she was transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Her injuries were non-life-threatening.
Speed does not appear to have been a factor in the accident, and the child's driveway lies at the top of the hill, so the driver had limited visibility, troopers said. The truck did not have any damage from the wreck.
Troopers based in Greensboro planned to meet with the girl's family this weekend as part of the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
