Get outside and learn about nature at Prairie Ridge Ecostation in March

The NC Museum of Natural Sciences' outdoor learning lab offers up a host of programs for kids, families and all ages in March.

RALEIGH, N.C.Prairie Ridge Ecostation in west Raleigh, part of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, has a bunch of family-friendly events coming up in March that offer free opportunities to get outside and a little something about the world around us.

Here's what's on the schedule for March. Descriptions are courtesy of the ecostation. All programs are free.

Exploring Soils
2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 1
Unearth the fascinating fundamentals of soil and compare different types. Recommended for ages 6 and up. Registration required.
Nature Art
1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 8

Nature is your canvas in this art-inspired experience! This program is appropriate for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No registration required.

Habitat Hike
2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 15

On this hike find out how animals and plants rely on one another and how energy flows throughout an ecosystem. Recommended for ages 6 and up. No registration required.

Wildlife Bingo
10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 21
Learn how to use iNaturalist, one of the most popular citizen science apps while playing wildlife bingo! This program will also help you prepare for the 2020 City Nature Challenge. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Registration required.
Observing Clouds
2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 22

Did you know cloud watching can contribute to scientific data and conservation efforts? Join us to learn more! This program is appropriate for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No registration required.

Birdwatching for Beginners
2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 29

Learn more about our flying, feathered friends and the spots they frequent. This program is appropriate for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No registration required.

Prairie Ridge is at 1671 Gold Star Dr., Raleigh. It's open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays and Saturdays, and noon to 4:30 p.m., Sundays.
