We’re heading up to DC for the March For Our Lives rally with a sense of excitement and curiosity.

This passionate movement has persisted for weeks. Will it build on that momentum or fade some, given the time that has passed since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.?

We have seen it happen before. Time rolls on, and eventually the news of the day switches to another topic. And, except for the people and communities directly affected by a tragedy, America’s attention moves to another topic, as unfortunate as that is. However, I think this time is different.

Another thing I’ll be interested in seeing is how many people make the trip to Washington. They expect 500,000 teens and adults from around the country. Will the 800 or so companion marches siphon people away who would otherwise have traveled to Washington?

Either way, I don’t doubt it will be a spirited gathering with plenty of emotion and unity. Rarely, if ever, have we seen such young ambassadors for a cause make a statement like this. I really look forward to it.
