FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A convicted sex offender wanted on arrest warrants from Georgia was taken into custody in Fayetteville Thursday, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Alexander Gonzalez Rios, 20, was convicted of statutory rape in Georgia in November and moved to Fayetteville without informing the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said.

She said that Rios, of 6420 Applegate Ave. in Fayetteville, told Cumberland investigators he didn't report his new address because he knew there were warrants out for his arrest in Georgia.

Rios was charged with sex offender registration and probation violations. He was placed in the Cumberland County jail under a $10,000 secured bond, pending extradition to Georgia.
