RALEIGH, N.C. — Another night of marches and protests in the wake of the George Floyd death were scheduled for different parts of central North Carolina.

Marches and protests were scheduled to happen in Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville and Chapel Hill.

8:09 p.m.: Conrad James, a Wake County activist who gave a list of demands to Raleigh Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown earlier this week is facing charges related to not returning a rental vehicle.
6:42 p.m.: Hundreds of protesters have gathered again in downtown Raleigh and were marching down several streets. Sky 5 was over the scene as they hundreds were gathered with fists in air, waving signs as they marched. The group marched to Shaw University then sat collectively in the street.
6:28 p.m.: A group of protesters who were earlier at a speaking function at Fayetteville's City Hall marched to the Market House. The group marched around the Market House seven times. Members of the National Guard and Fayetteville Police Department were also on the scene to control traffic after protesters refused to march on the sidewalk instead of on the street.

The protesters then marched away from the area and back to City Hall as National Guard and police remained on the scene.

Protest in Knightdale (Jonas Silver, Knightdale Public Information Officer)
6:24 p.m.: About 50 people joined a protest going on in Knightdale. Police Chief Lawrence Capps and police officers met with leaders of the peaceful march and worked with them on their plans to march, according to Jonas Silver, public information officer.

4:15 p.m.: Faisal Khan, the organizer of last Saturday’s protest in Raleigh and founder of Carolina Peace Center, spoke at a press conference on Friday. He discussed the life of George Floyd, his tragic death and the demands his organization and others have in the wake of the protests, riots and violence here and across the country. He also criticized the efforts of the Raleigh Police Department and Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown.

"We are here to continue our demand list," Khan said. "They are non-negotiable. We have the intentions of making sure that those demands are met. Until then, we will continue to fight for justice.

Several people at the press conference were wearing T-shirts that listed the demands:

  • Step down (Raleigh Police Chief Cassandra) Deck-Brown
  • Oversight with Accountability
  • Defund the Police
  • Good Cops, Step Up
  • Invest in People
