Gastonia woman wins inaugural Fayetteville half marathon

A Gastonia woman claimed first place in the fast and flat Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Race 13.1 Fayetteville Half Marathon Sunday.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Gastonia woman claimed first place in the fast and flat Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Race 13.1 Fayetteville Half Marathon Sunday.

Suzanne Hutchins won the women's division and Brian Huberty of Miami Beach, Fla., won the men's race.

The inaugural event saw about 700 participants at half-marathon, 5K and 10K distances.

Race 13.1 events will also be held in Greensboro, Raleigh and Winston-Salem this year.

In each community, Race 13.1 partners with a local non-profit. In Fayetteville, a portion of the race proceeds when to Camp Corral which offers summer camp for children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members.
