RALEIGH, N.C. — Issues at the pump continue today in North Carolina, but it's getting better!

On Sunday afternoon around 50% of gas stations in North Carolina are without gas.

Despite numbers showing about half the stations in the state with fuel shortages, people across the Triangle are finding it easier to fill up.

WRAL News reporters drove around the Triangle area on Monday to look at the gas situation firsthand. Our reporters found that lines are shorter, but fuel prices are higher.

For Cassandra Tucker the sound of gas flowing into her car is like music to her ears.

“I am so elated that there is no tags, nothing saying no gas so I’m excited," she Cassandra Tucker, who we met at a Harris Teeter gas station in Wake Forest, where gas was $2.99 a gallon.

She brought out one of her cars to fill up – but her other car is sitting on empty at home.

"I couldn’t even drive up here. I brought a gas can. I’ve been looking since last Friday just trying to find gas," she said.

The next stop on WRAL News' drive to find gas took us to Johnston County, at a Han-Dee Hugo's BP on Highway 70 and Shotwell Rd.

It had plenty of gas and no lines.

Next stop was Kangaroo Express at 70 East and Raynor Rd in Garner.

Gas was flowing, and there was no wait.

Around downtown Raleigh – gas was at a premium.

There was no gas at the Speedway on Capital Blvd, just north of downtown.

But a little further north on Capital, we found gas at this Valero.

At each stop, gas was $2.89 a gallon.

The price jumped up as we drove north.

An Exxon on Main Street in Wake Forest had gas at $2.99 a gallon.

People filling up at the BP just down the street paid $2.95.

Those higher prices another painful fallout from the pipeline hack.

“It’s a sad thing. I understand a $5 million dollar ransom was paid to the hackers in Russia, and I kind of think that’s wrong," said Gary Weeks, a driver we met along the way.
