Gas line cut, leaks in east Raleigh

Progress Energy workers cut a gas line by accident Tuesday morning in the area of Culpepper Lane and Crabtree Boulevard in east Raleigh, a company spokeswoman said. The leak was capped just after noon, but three homes remained without power.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Progress Energy workers cut a gas line by accident Tuesday morning in the area of Culpepper Lane and Crabtree Boulevard in east Raleigh, a company spokeswoman said.

Police and fire officials evacuated five nearby homes as a precaution, a police spokesman said. The leak was capped just after noon, but three homes remained without service.

Repairs were expected to be completed Tuesday afternoon.
