RALEIGH, N.C. — A gas line was damaged Friday morning near Old Wake Forest Road in Raleigh, leading to blocked roads for about an hour.

"Crews are working to secure the gas leak as we speak," said Persida Montanez, a Dominion Energy spokeswoman.

A tweet from the City of Raleigh said people had been evacuated from nearby buildings and cautioned people to avoid the area.

People were seen standing outside in the cold at the NC Department of Revenue around 9:45 a.m. By 10 a.m., the crowd formed a line and walked back inside.

Multiple fire trucks, first responders and EMS appeared to be at the nearby intersection. The streets were blocked off with yellow tape, with at least five police vehicles creating a barrier to prevent oncoming traffic.

"One customer in the area may temporarily have their natural gas service interrupted after we secure the leak and as we make repairs – hopefully not," said Montanez.
