Gas leak creates heavy backups on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh

— A gas leak on Wednesday closed the southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard near Durant Road and Thornton Road.

The leak was reported before 9:45 a.m. Sky 5 video showed heavy congestion in the southbound lanes.

A spokesperson with Dominion Energy said the leak was caused by construction workers in the area. The leak was capped by 10:15 a.m.

Firefighters and police officers were at the scene directing traffic. The road reopened by 11 a.m.

As an alternate route, drivers were asked to take Burlington Mills Road onto Forestville Road to Louisburg Road.
