Gas leak closes part of Franklin Street in Chapel Hill
Franklin Street was closed for about three hours between Mallette and Church streets, with traffic detoured to Rosemary Street and Cameron Avenue.
Posted — UpdatedCHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A gas leak had traffic diverted from Chapel Hill's main street on Saturday evening. Franklin Street was closed for about three hours between Mallette and Church streets, with traffic detoured to Rosemary Street and Cameron Avenue.
Crews from Dominion Energy responded to the report of the leak just before 4:30 p.m.
They capped the leak by 6 p.m. and had the street back open to traffic by 7:30 p.m.
Businesses in the 200 block of Franklin Street were closed during the repair, and pedestrians were unable to walk on Franklin Street during that time.
