RALEIGH, N.C. — Homes were evacuated on Tuesday in northwest Raleigh because of a gas leak, officials said.

PSNC Energy crews responded to a damaged service line at 4517 Fernham Place in Raleigh around 1 p.m., according to PSNC spokeswoman Angie Townsend.

A contractor crew was working on the street, which had a PSNC steel service pipe line, Townsend said.

The gas line was shut off at about 1:30 p.m. and the pipe was being fixed, Townsend said.

Residents were expected to be able to return to their homes by 2 p.m.
