HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A gas leak in the Holly Glen subdivision in Holly Springs prevented school buses from dropping children off in the neighborhood Monday afternoon, officials said.

A crew working on Wild Holly Lane struck a 2-inch gas line, PSNC Energy spokeswoman Angie Townsend said. Gas was shut off at about 3:50 p.m., and crews were working to repair the line, she said.

No injuries were reported, and services to about 10 homes was affected.

Holly Springs spokesman Mark Andrews said 12 to 14 nearby homes were evacuated shortly after the 2:15 p.m. incident, and local residents were allowed to return home at about 4 p.m.

Parents with children on six bus routes from Holly Grove Elementary School – the black, green, purple, orange, blue and yellow routes – had to pick up their children at school.
