GARNER, N.C. — Garner's population has reached the 25,000 mark, according to new numbers released Thursday by the town's planning department.

The population in the Wake County town, currently at 25,056, has steadily climbed each year since 1940, when the population was 768.

Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams credits the population increase for bring "more opportunities, more jobs, more places to shop and eat and more places to recreate.”

Williams also said “growth comes with challenges, but the Town Board and staff are on top of those challenges.”
