Garner police are investigating a home invasion that happened on Saturday.

Garner police said it happened at 12:42 p.m. at 108 Cedar Lane in Garner. Police said a 23-year-old woman was walking into her home when she was approached by a thin built male who was wearing a mask and had a handgun. He was coming from her bedroom area, the victim told police.

Garner Police Chief Joe Binns said the victim struggled with the suspect but got away to a neighbor's house, where she called 911. Police said the victim sustained minor injuries and nobody else was home at the time. She took herself to the hospital, Binns said.

Binns said there was no relationship or connection between the victim and suspect but they were still investigating. He urged residents to take precautions such as locking doors. He did say there is no streak of home invasions going on in the area for residents to be concerned about.
