Garner police arrest man in stabbing of woman, child

Garner police are looking for a man in connection to the stabbing overnight of a woman and a 1-year-old child.

GARNER, N.C. — Garner police said Saturday they have arrested and charged a man in connection to the stabbing Friday of a woman and a 1-year-old child.

Rhodrick "Rhodeick" Leon Walden, 49, was taken into custody on Saturday. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police responded were called to an apartment at 116 Shady Lawn Court around 2 a.m. on Friday morning. The complex is across the street from Garner Magnet High School. Authorities said Paula Leach, 48, and her 1-year-old godchild, were injured, but both were expected to make a full recovery. Leach was stabbed multiple times and the 1-year-old had a laceration on her leg.

Police said Walden left the scene in Leach's green 2010 GMC Acadia.
