GARNER, N.C. — A Garner man was charged Friday in connection with an illegal street race three weeks ago that killed another driver.

Anthony Banks, 53, of 7913 Independent Court, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, felony hit-and-run causing serious injury or death and resisting a public officer.

Charles Edward Williams, 62, was speeding along Woodland Road near Garner on March 10 when he lost control of his 1972 Chevrolet pickup, which struck a mailbox, a ditch and two trees and then burst into flames.

The State Highway Patrol said Williams was racing against Banks and collided with his 2007 Dodge Magnum before he crashed.
