Thousands without power, lights out at intersections near Crabtree Valley in Raleigh

Severe weather moved through the Triangle Sunday night, leaving many in the area without power.

Thousands were without power in west Raleigh Monday morning after severe weather moved through the Triangle overnight.

At 8:45 a.m., Duke Energy reported 8,000 customers were without power in the area of Blue Ridge Road and Glenwood Avenue. That number was reduced to 4,000 by 10 a.m.

At 9:45 a.m., traffic lights were out at the Glenwood Avenue and Creedmoor Road intersection and at multiple intersections in that area. More than 100 customers were also without power in Durham and Orange counties.

Power was estimated to be restored Monday afternoon.

In North Raleigh, a tree fell down on a home overnight, causing exterior and interior roof damage.

Late Sunday night, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for several counties in the WRAL viewing area-- including Wake, Orange, Franklin, Durham, Warren, Vance and Granville, among others.

Chapel Hill suffered significant power outage issues as a result of the severe weather, with about 2,000 people in the town without power at one point.

There is no threat for severe weather Monday, which will be partly cloudy with a high of 74 degrees and a 20% chance of precipitation.
