According to police, a person called 911 around 5 a.m. to report a body on the side of the roadway near the 2900 block of N. Main Street near Inline Auto Sales.

Officers responded to the scene and found the body in the road along with debris from a car, including a vehicle's passenger side mirror.

In a Facebook post, police identified the victim as Gerlin Efrain Murillo Garcia, 17, of Fuquay-Varina.

"The traffic crash itself is still under investigation," the department posted on its Facebook page. "We are currently reviewing all evidence and facts surrounding the traffic crash and will make a determination if any other charges are appropriate after the investigation is complete."

Officers searched for the suspect's car, which was believed to be a silver sedan with passenger side damage, early Sunday morning. Before 9:30 a.m., the car had been located in the Walmart parking lot, located at 1051 E. Broad Street. The driver was arrested before noon.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area along N. Main Street on Sunday morning while the investigation was underway.

Police have not yet identified the victim.

"As with all tragedies that occur within our community please keep the victim and all of those involved with this investigation in your thoughts and prayers," a post on the Fuquay-Varina Facebook page read.
