<b>FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C.</b> — Police arrested a Fuquay-Varina man Saturday after he allegedly slapped a 2-year-old child's buttocks and face repeatedly.

The victim suffered severe bruising and swelling, arrest warrants state.

James Matthew Minarik, 39, of 209 E. Jones St., was charged with child abuse inflicting serious physical injury and assault on a child under 12. He was taken to the Wake County jail and is due in court Monday.

Warrants state that Minarik was supervising the child when the alleged abuse happened.
