Funeral Services for NCCU Student Scheduled Sunday

Services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cherryville. Fuller’s father is a pastor at the church.

CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — Funeral services will be held this weekend for a North Carolina Central University Student that died suddenly Tuesday.

Canon Tyrell Fuller, 21, of Lincolnton, collapsed while working at a Durham group home Monday night. He never regained consciousness and died Tuesday morning.

Services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cherryville. Fuller’s father is a pastor at the church.

Family is requesting cards be sent to Ebony & Whites Funeral Home in Lincolnton.

An autopsy is underway to determine whether Fuller had meningitis. On Thursday, officials said laboratory tests and preliminary autopsy results have been inconclusive. Additional testing in ongoing and is expected to take several days.

As a precaution, students who had close contact with him have been offered antibiotics.

Fuller, a senior majoring in history, was a Resident Assistant at a campus apartment complex.
