Funeral for 8-year-old killed in Nash County after grandmother charged with her death

A Nash County 8-year-old killed last month will be laid to rest on Friday.

Christal Lane died February 7, and her grandmother is charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death.

Her funeral will be held in Columbia, South Carolina at Zion Mill Creek Baptist Church.

In a post on Facebook, Commissioner Gwen Wilkins wrote, "Christal Nevaeh Lane, you have not been forgotten."

She also asked the public to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Friday. That's the time Lane will be laid to rest.

An investigation is currently underway into the abuse that ultimately led to Lane's homicide.
