PUTNAM COUNTY, GA — Funeral arrangements have been announced for two corrections officers fatally shot by two escaped inmates aboard a transport bus in Putnam County on Tuesday.

Christopher Monica, 42 and Curtis Billue, 58, were transporting 33 inmates by bus from the Baldwin County State Prison in Milledgeville to the Georgia Diagnostic Classification Prison near Jackson when they were allegedly overpowered and shot to death by two of the inmates, identified as 43 year-old Donnie Russell Rowe and 24 year-old Ricky DuBose.

Russell and DuBose then carjacked the driver of a green Honda Civic and fled the scene. The pair then ditched the Civic and stole a white 2008 Ford F-250 with the Georgia license tag of BCX5372.

The Honda Civic was later recovered from a wooded area in Madison, Ga.

The escapees were later apprehended in Shelbyville, TN.

Monica had worked for the facility for nearly eight years after being hired in October of 2009. Billue was nearing his 10th anniversary with the facility after being hired in July of 2007.

Funeral services for Christopher Monica will be held on Tuesday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville. Funeral services for Curtis Billue will take place on Saturday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at the Wilkinson County High School Auditorium in McIntyre, Ga.
