Fun awaits as Destination SunFest set to kick off Saturday in Raleigh
Final touches were being made and the anticipation was pretty high for Saturday's Destination SunFest at Dix Park in Raleigh.
Posted — UpdatedVisitors will have a chance to celebrate the future of the park and visit the sunflowers. About a week ago, the sunflower field wasn't ready due to the hot weather and lack of rain. The sunflowers bloomed just in time and visitors were already looking forward to celebrate the summer.
"It's a little disappointing they're not as tall as last year but I understand the weather had a lot to do with that," said Keen Sol, a park visitor. "It's been dry. It's still pretty, just not as tall."
"It hasn't grown super tall but they look beautiful," said Ashley Riner. "Either way, it's hot and humid but it's still beautiful."
Riner and her husband, Corey, decided to catch the views now ahead of the big crowds. This past spring, about 40,000 people filled the 308-acre space as part the first-ever Dreamville Festival.
"It'll bring more families over because when you think of ... me personally, not being from here, when I thought of Raleigh, I was like "OK, this is a tiny little town' or something," Riner said. "But it's really big and it's really expanding really quick."
Park visitors say events like Destination SunFest is what truly makes DixPark a 'destination' for everyone.
The event runs from 2-9 p.m. and is free to the public.
