From snow to whoa: 60-degree temps coming this weekend

"Saturday won't be the prettiest-looking day – it will be mostly cloudy – but at least it will be warm," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze.

Temperatures begin the slow, steady climb Tuesday, when the mercury will reach into the 40s, Maze said. 

Tuesday will start out cold, with temperatures in the teens overnight and wind chills in the single digits.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for counties in the central and eastern part of the state through noon. There is a chance that melting snow and ice could re-freeze creating havoc for drivers who venture out before the sun is high in the sky. 

But clearing will be coming, said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

"High pressure will allow for plenty of sunshine, and when you combine that with winds out of the southwest, it's going to really feel much warmer than it has in days," Gardner said.

Wednesday and Thursday will have highs in the 50s, and by Friday the forecast has temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s.

It will likely be in the 40s and dry when the acorn drops in Raleigh on New Year's Eve, Maze said. That's about 10 degrees above normal.

Then, on Saturday and Sunday, the area should enjoy the 60-degree weather.
