From Kathy in Manson

I was working from home that day and like many watched the events unfold in real-time. Three weeks later as part of a disaster team I was sent to NY to support recovery efforts. As we approached the impact area, the smell of smoke was smothering and smoke still rose from the fallen structures, ashes still fell from the sky, and buildings were shrouded in black and red cloth as if in mourning.

How were you affected?

I was working from home that day and like many watched the events unfold in real-time. Three weeks later as part of a disaster team I was sent to NY to support recovery efforts. As we approached the impact area, the smell of smoke was smothering and smoke still rose from the fallen structures, ashes still fell from the sky, and buildings were shrouded in black and red cloth as if in mourning. The abundance of prayer notices and pictures posted in search of loved ones was overwhelming. Those memories shall forever be etched in my mind and on my heart.

How has your life changed in the 10 years since the 9/11 attacks?

I am reminded daily that life is so precious. I am thankful everyday for those people who fight and work to protect my freedom. I find myself taking the time to tell first responders, our soldiers, and those in the intelligence communities and law enforcement thank you for their service. I know first hand they spend hours working to prevent another 9/11. May we never forget!
