MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Family and friends are pushing Horry County to enact new beach rules after a flying umbrella killed 63-year-old Tammy Perrault.

The beach was Tammy's favorite place. A place of peace and serenity.

"A part of Tammy was with us because she loved the ocean so much," said Kathy Sanders, a friend of Tammy's.

It's difficult for Tammy's friends and Tammy's husband to return to the beach after the tragedy.

"His heart is broken and it will never be the same," said Tammy's friend Sherri White.

But loved ones found the courage to honor Tammy where she felt like home. On Sunday, white roses were thrown to the ocean in her honor.

"White means innocence, integrity and love," Sanders said. "She was beautiful inside and out."

There were tears and comfort, but most importantly, memories that reminded them of who Tammy was.

“We knew she was looking down on us and she wanted us to do that for her. It was just a time to celebrate her life and how she loved life,” Sanders said.

But the ceremony doesn't stop here. Some friends are working together to create a new law named after Tammy which will require big umbrellas to have more weight so they can avoid hurting someone else.
