RALEIGH, N.C. — Community members are mourning the loss of a Raleigh mother who was shot and killed in southeast Raleigh on Friday.

Family members said Kimberly Holder was killed and two men were injured in the incident, which happened at the 500 block of Bragg Street. Police were called to the area just after 9 p.m. and found a woman dead at the scene and two men with gunshot wounds.

The two men were transported to WakeMed with what officials said were non-life threatening injuries.

On Saturday, family and friends held a candlelight vigil for Holder on Bragg Street. Many said they are hurt knowing the mother lost her life in the same place she grew up.

Dozens of lit candles and balloons filled the space on Bragg Street where Holder was gunned down. A family friend of hers remembered getting the unexpected phone call no one wants to hear.

"My phone was just ringing, ringing, ringing, ringing, ringing ... and I got back to Raleigh and somebody told me, and I was like 'you got to be kidding me," said pastor Chris Jones.

Jones said Holder grew up with his daughter.

"Her smile would just light up a room when she came in," Jones said. "She had this beautiful smile and dimples and just a wonderful young girl. My heart goes out to the family."

In the midst of loss, the community wants to spread love.

"It takes us as neighbors to love one another, love our citizens and love our young people and wrap around them," Jones said.

"We need to do something with the people. We need to pour some resources. We need to pour some finances into our young people ... wrap around our young people and support them."
